Executive Chef at GUINNESS STOREHOUSE® – Justin O Connor is passionate about cooking with GUINNESS® beer:
"At GUINNESS STOREHOUSE® we try to bring GUINNESS® beer and GUINNESS® beer products into the food preparation and recipes where we can on menus. The joy of cooking with GUINNESS® beer is its smooth texture in sauces - that is not over powering but still has that unique GUINNESS® beer flavour. GUINNESS® beer is especially recommended with the following foods – Mussels and GUINNESS® beer – instead of the traditional white wine, just add cream and parsley. Beef and GUINNESS® beer is our number one seller in the Brewery Bar, the restaurant here at GUINNESS STOREHOUSE®. Bay leaves and GUINNESS® beer work really well together and also deglaze your lamb pan with GUINNESS® beer to make a great sauce.
Finally, GUINNESS® beer and Oysters are a well-known fantastic combination. A serving suggestion is to add a drop of Tabasco sauce, a squeeze of lemon and to accompany with GUINNESS® beer bread. Light delicate salty flavours are enhanced by strong roast bitter flavours in GUINNESS® beer Foreign Extra Stout, whereas the light crisp sharpness of hops make it ideal for mature cheeses and rich hearty dishes like casseroles and stews."
"Have you ever tried a GUINNESS® Cocktail?"
Well The Black Velvet is perhaps the classic cocktail. All you need is a 1/2 flute or Champagne and a 1/2 flute of GUINNESS® Extra Stout.
This famous drink was invented in 1861 at Brook's Club in London. Prince Albert had died, everyone was in mourning, and the story goes that the steward at the club, overcome with the emotion of the occasion, ordered that even the champagne should be put into mourning, and proceeded to mix it with GUINNESS®. The taste was so delicious, Black Velvet became extremely popular.
Alcohol Content of the GUINNESS® Black Velvet Cocktail is 9.2%.
